Township SMME Development Hackathon RSVP
Thank you for expressing interest in the Township SMME Development Hackathon.
The following selection criteria apply:
- Aged between 18-35 years.
- Studied or currently studying one or more of the following:
- Software development (must be able to code on Microsoft technology)
- Data Science (must be able to code on Microsoft technology)
- Data Engineering (must be able to code on Microsoft technology)
- UX/UI
- Marketing
- Finance
- Business

- Participation and Indemnity
- I hereby state that I have chosen to take part in the Event being offered by SAtion and its partners of my own free will;
- I understand that taking part in any Event can result in property damage and physical injury;
- I further understand that while SAtion and its partners will make every effort to provide a conducive, safe and secure environment for the Event, they will not be and/or are not responsible for any injuries, property damage or liability that may arise from my participation in the Event;
- I indemnify SAtion and its partners against all claims, losses, demands, actions, damages and causes of action whatsoever arising directly or indirectly out of my acts connected with or arising out of the Event, whether suffered by me or any other third party, and I hold SAtion and its partners harmless therefrom;
- I assume full responsibility for the decision, and the consequences thereof, to take part in the Event;
- I hereby release, agree to indemnify and hold SAtion and its partners free and harmless from any and all costs, losses, expenses, damages (direct, indirect, consequential or otherwise), claims, suits, causes of action or any other liability or responsibility whatsoever, including attorney’s fees and related costs, resulting from any injury to any person(s) or damage to property arising out of, or which may in any manner be connected with, said Event as provided herein.
- Media rights
- I hereby grant and authorise SAtion and its partners the right to take, edit, alter, copy, exhibit, publish, distribute and make use of any and all pictures or video or voice recordings or quotations taken of me at the Event to be used in and/or for promotional materials including, but not limited to: newsletters, flyers, posters, brochures, advertisements, fundraising letters, annual reports, press kits and submissions to journalists, websites, social networking sites and other print and digital communications, without permission, payment or any other consideration;
- This authorisation extends to all languages, media, formats and markets now known or later discovered;
- I waive the right to inspect or approve any finished product in which my likeness appears, including written or electronic copy.
- Personal Data
- “Personal Data” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person and any other data or information that constitutes personal data or personal information under any applicable Data Protection Law;
- Without limiting the foregoing, an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by referencing:

- an identifier such as a person’s name, e-mail address, phone number, account numbers, government-issued ID numbers, or an online identifier;
- location data such as an IP address,
- financial information,

- one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural, or social identity of that natural person, or
- information associated or combined with Personal Data.
- Privacy:
- SAtion, and its partners, will collect Personal Data from the Event attendees and hereby notify event participants that Personal Data is being collected;
- The Personal Data will be used for the purposes of the SAtion Ecosystem and its current and future partners, the current and future Events;
- The Personal Data will be used for the public relations or communications, where it may be shared with our third-party PR organisations, on social media and the press;
- The Personal Data will be shared with designated partners involved in the Event; who may, in turn, communicate the Event (research) findings to their Township project principals.
- SAtion will comply with Data Protection Law, POPIA and any applicable anti-spam legislation.
- SAtion will do its utmost to protect Personal Data from unauthorised use, access or disclosure;
- SAtion will not transfer or sell the Personal Data to any third party except through sharing with contractually bound sub-processors operating on behalf of SAtion;
- For privacy purposes, pseudonyms (such as SMME-1 or SMME-2) will be used when reporting on, quoting or citing participants’ results.
- POPIA
- “POPIA” means, the Protection of Personal Information Act No.4 of 2013, as amended from time to time;
- I consent and agree that SAtion and its partners may hold and process personal information obtained during the scope and course of the event;
- SAtion and its partners agree to treat and protect any personal information obtained within the SAtion Ecosystem as governed by POPIA.
- Intellectual Property (IP)
- Any Intellectual Property created during the Course and Scope of the Event, and as a result of participation in the Event, will belong to the person(s) that creates/created the Intellectual Property. Intellectual Property created due to participation, or as a result of participation in the Event, will not be assigned to any other person.
- Should the owners of the Intellectual Property wish to commercialise their Intellectual Property, then it is agreed that SAtion will be granted a right of first refusal to, and in favour of SAtion and/or IQbusiness, to purchase such intellectual property which was created and/or ideated during the course and scope of the event.
- The Parties’ obligations under this clause shall survive the termination of this event for any reason whatsoever.
